Since 1988, PORTISUB has been more than just a diving club; it is the heart of the underwater community in the Western Algarve. With more than 600 members, its mission is to be the benchmark meeting point for all those who love the sea, combining the practice of sport with a deep commitment to the preservation and knowledge of its underwater heritage.

For those looking for a diving course in the Algarve, PORTISUB is a leading school with more than 500 divers trained. It offers scuba diving and freediving courses, with programs certified by the Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities (FPAS) and the Portuguese Navy. Guardian of the Marine and Archaeological Heritage
Its passion for the sea goes beyond sport. PORTISUB takes an active role in defending the environment and enhancing the region’s underwater history. Over more than three decades, it has led high-impact projects such as:
- Underwater Archaeology: He monitored dredging in the River Arade and is the faithful custodian of a Roman anchor stump that he discovered, a milestone in local archaeology.
- Environmental Conservation: Developed projects such as “Biosfera” to survey seagrass in the Ria de Alvor and promoted awareness campaigns on the beaches as part of the Blue Flag project.
- Scientific Monitoring: Carried out technical surveys of submarine outfalls to assess and help mitigate their environmental impact on the Algarve coast.
