A Portimão City Council is proud to be the promoter and coordinator of the Portimão Nautical Station.
With a vision of the future for tourism and the sea, the Municipality has brought together a group of more than 50 partner organizations – a vast network of sailing clubs, marina managers, entertainment companies, and the best of our hotels and restaurants.
This collective effort is not just a project; it is a commitment to excellence. And that’s why, with the support of the Portugal Náuticoprogram, we have become a certified Nautical Station. We are working together to ensure that Portimão is your destination of choice for nautical tourism, offering authentic and unforgettable experiences.

Sailing Numbers
Atlantic Naval Liaison
On one hand, Portimão is home to the Portuguese Navy’s only Naval Support Point on the mainland’s south coast. On the other, the Port of Portimão, a unique port infrastructure in the region that welcomes dozens of cruise ships every year, bringing around 45,000 passengers to the region. But in addition to this activity linked to the cruise sector, the Port of Portimão will now receive the only weekly maritime connection with a ro-pax (ferry) ship, for passengers and cargo, between Funchal (and the Canary Islands) and the mainland.
Nautical Excellence
Portimão also offers an important port of refuge at the entrance to the Mediterranean, the Portimão Marina, which has won several international awards and is the venue for the world’s most prestigious nautical events, is equipped with 620 berths and offers all the services needed to support sailors and their boats, including a boatyard. In addition to the Portimão Marina, there are also around 300 moorings offered by the Bartolomeu Dias and São Francisco marinas on the River Arade.
Social Responsibility
The Nautical Station uses this deep connection as a force for social inclusion, pioneering the use of nautical activities as a tool for integration, making sailing and beaches accessible to all. With adapted infrastructures and equipment, accessibility is transversal, allowing people with functional diversity to fully enjoy the sea, enriching the lives of the local community and making Portimão a more welcoming destination for all.
Environmental Responsibility
Together with our partners, we actively work on training and education to reduce our ecological footprint through concrete actions: coastal and beach clean-ups, differentiated waste collection and technological development in the application of renewable energies on boats. Our commitment is to protect the marine ecosystem and encourage practices that ensure the preservation of our greatest asset.
